Resumption of surgeries in government hospitals as OTs open their doors to patients

Health officials said, performing surgeries at Pollachi and Mettupalayam government hospitals were suspended last year due to coronavirus infections. Pollachi and Mettupalayam government hospitals have resumed performing surgeries as the spread of coronavirus infection is declining.

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Government Hospitals (GHs) are resuming to perform surgeries that were temporarily halted due to corona infection, health officials said.

There are 13 government hospitals in Coimbatore district. At a time when the respective medical heath centres were swelling with corona virus patients, surgeries including obstetric surgery, fracture surgery and accident surgery were performed at the District Government General Hospital and Mettupalayam Government Hospital in Pollachi. However, at present, following a slump in the number of corona virus cases, the Operation Theatres (OTs) in the public hospitals will perform surgeries on patients.

Health officials said performing elective surgeries at Pollachi and Mettupalayam government hospitals were suspended last year due to coronavirus infections. Pollachi and Mettupalayam government hospitals have resumed performing surgeries as the spread of coronavirus infection is declining.

E. Chandra, Associate Director, Department of Health, said: "All medical personnel, including nurses, have been advised to take coronavirus prevention measures as the incidence of coronavirus infection is high. Only major surgeries were referred to Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital. The spread of the virus in Coimbatore has reduced and surgeries are being performed at Pollachi and Mettupalayam government hospitals. So the patients should take advantage of this."
