Coimbatore: A differently abled boy from the city had been provided with a shoe by the Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran, two months ago.
Thereafter, it was reported that the Differently Abled Welfare officers had taken the shoe from the boy. The boy’s father complained that the shoe had not been returned and a news story was published on the issue.
Velmurugan is a differently-abled person from Podanur, Coimbatore who runs a small shop in the area. Last July, Velmurugan had visited the District Collectorate with his family to petition the District Collector seeking a free house from the Government of Tamil Nadu. During the visit, the District Collector presented the boy with a shoe during a program organized by a private NGO on behalf of the Differently Abled Welfare Department.Moreover, the video went viral on social media and the District Collector was appreciated by the public for his thoughtful gesture.
Velmurugan alleged on Sunday that the Differently Abled Welfare officials had taken theshoe, post the event, and had been delaying in returning it to them for the past two months. When the issue came to light, the District Collector immediately directed the Differently Abled Welfare authorities to provide the shoe immediately. It has been clarified that the show was being resized for the boy’s foot and that it was the shoe maker who was causing the delay.
