56 percent of Civil Services applicants did not turn up for Group-1 exam in Coimbatore district

6124 applicants did not turn up for the Group-1 exam.


Coimbatore: In the first round of the Civil Services examination held in Coimbatore on Sunday, 56 percent students did not turn up.

The preliminary examination of Civil Services for posts including IAS-IPS on behalf of the Central Public Service Commission was held across the country on October 10. The examination was held at 25 centers in Coimbatore district. A total of 10,953 people were given permission to write the exam.



Of these, only 4,829 had appeared for the exam which comprises 44 percent of applicants. 56 percent of the applicants who had obtained the hall ticket i.e. 6124 applicants did not appear for the examination.

Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran and Treasury Accounts Commissioner Venkatesh personally inspected the examination centers. A team of 8 sub-collectors, 25 tahsildars, 46 sub tahsildars and 931 room supervisors in the district were engaged in supervision at the examination centers. Jammers were installed on the premises of the examination center to prevent them from engaging in irregularities with the help of electronic devices. Special buses were operated from the major areas in the city to the examination centers.
