The Siruvani Dam in Coimbatore is the major source of water for more than 20 villages and 26 wards in the corporation, which provides 10 crore liters of water on a daily basis. The water levels decreased immensely, up to 3 feet, during the months of April, May due to heat. The southwest monsoonal rains have increased the water levels especially at Mukthiyaru and Padiyalaru.
According to a Water Drainage Board official, “The water level in the dam has risen to 43.50 feet due to incessant rains in the Siruvani dam. 96 MLD of water is taken for drinking water on behalf of the Corporation. Drinking water will be sufficient till March next year.
