Coimbatore: On account of the 150th birth anniversary of VO Chidambaram Pillai, the ‘Chekkizhutha Semmal’, a speech contest was organized by the Bharathiya Janata Party. The competitions were held at a private marriage hall in Ram Nagar, Gandhipuram, Coimbatore
The competition was held under the topics, V.O.C, who excelled in foreign trade, V.O.C, the prominent figure of today's self-reliant India, a spiritual Tamil scholar, and a worker's companion.
A reward of Rs.1,500 each and a certificate was awarded to the students who received the first three places. A consolation prize of Rs.1,000 was given to the fourth place and Rs.500 to the fifth-placed student. Further, all the students who participated in the competition were awarded certificates of appreciation.
The first and second place winners will participate in the state-level competition. The first prize will be Rs 1 lakh, second prize of Rs 50,000, third prize of Rs 25,000 and special prize of Rs 10,000 each will be given to the next 10 persons.
Maranatha Meenakshi Raja, daughter of V.O.Chidambaranar's eighth son Valeswaran, was the chief guest. Saiva Peramuna Sabha President Shanmugam was present as a special invitee and graced the function.
On the occasion, former MLA Chinnaraj delivered a felicitation address. Annamalainathan, Shah Jahan, and Meisree were the judges at the function.
