Coimbatore: Coimbatore: Years ago, when Dr. Praveen Shankar narrated stories to his seven-year old son Rithvik Bala, little did the Consultant Pathologist realise that one day, these bed-time stories would be authored as a book by his son. Young debutant writer, Rithvik Bala from the city is all set to release his first book titled ‘Adventures of Scottish Pirates and the Deadly Dragon’, slated to be launched on October 10, Sunday at The Odyssey.
'When Rithvik was studying in class five, he took one-and-a-half years to write the book. He originally wrote the book in diary format', informs his mother, Prabavathi, who is a physiotherapist by profession.
Lockdown was a blessing in disguise
'The lockdown was a blessing in disguise to help the young author complete his work. As in May 2021, Rithvik sent his script to a publication house who instructed that a third person format of writing is the right to go, instead of the diary style,' Prabavathi told SimpliCity, on Saturday.
Without wasting anytime, 12-year old Rithvik, swung into action and implemented the feedback offered by Readen Publishers and began his book work. The young author who is also an avid bird watcher did not take any professional training in writing. Rithvik dons many hats, from being an active quizzer, a bird watcher, musician, poet and an author, he is good at academics too, tells his mother who adoresRithvik's assiduousness and zeal in all things, he does.
A surreal experience of being among the tribes of Amazon
The 7th grade student is currently working on two other books -- One is in Tamil and anothera science-fiction in English, added Rithvik's mom who is overjoyed and thrilled at her Sons's debut book launch. Throwinglight on his debut book, Prabavathi tells us that ‘'The novel Adventures of Scottish Pirates and the Deadly Dragon’ will take readers on a world tour. While reading the book, readers will be left with a feeling of being among the tribes of Amazon, while another section of the book will make readers understand what it takes being a crew member of the Scottish Pirates, fighting with the navies around the world.'
Speaking to SimpliCity after the virtual book launch that took place at Odyssey store today, Rithvik Bala said “I drew inspiration from the works of J.K. Rowling, Ruskin Bond, Sudha Murty and R K Narayan. My parentsalways motivated me to write", said the 7th grader who thoughtfully gave credit to his Cambridge English teachers -- Tambaiah and Shravanthi for his language skills.
Rithvik places on record, appreciation for his school, Vidhya Niketan Public School in Coimbatore for providing him with the platform to narrate his poetry.
Book titled 'Adventures of Scottish Pirates and The Deadly Dragon' was co-edited by Rithvik Bala and Jothy Shankar, Founder and Director of Readen Publishers, who is an author by profession. The book which runs to 145 pages is available in both paperback and kindle editions. It can be purchased over the shelf from Odyssey and can be bought online from Amazon.
