The accused who absconded were nabbed on Wednesday by the special squads
Coimbatore:The Forest Department arrested two men on Wednesday for hunting monitor lizards in Periyanayakkampalayam.
Two men who were involved in hunting Monitor Lizard in Tholampalayam East Beat Forest, Periyanayakkampalayam forest range in Coimbatore. The two were imprisoned after a court hearing. Headed by K Muthu, Divisional Forester, Forest guards S.SathishKUmar and C.Dinesh along with the anti-poaching guards went on a patrol to the Periyanayakenpalayam Forest Range, Tholampalayam East Beat, Thadagam Reserve Forest, Kannimar Temple area at 5 pm. The guards caught two men who were involved in hunting Monitor lizards.
The forest officials recovered three dead lizards and the nets used for hunting. The two men went into hiding,special squads were formed to nab them. The forest officials captured the two men on the 6th. The accused are identified as K. Rajendran (41) and K. Mani (42) of Pilichi Koundanur, Kalampalayam Village, Mettupalayam.

The two were questioned by P.N.Palayam Forest Department Officer, S. Selvaraj.
The two admitted to the crime and revealed the spot of hunting, places where the weapons(knife) were hidden. They were arrested and produced before the Mettupalayam Criminal Court today (07.10.2021) as per the directions of Coimbatore District Forest Officer T.S. Ashok Kumar IFS and r the judicial magistrate ordered lodging them at the Avinashi Branch jail.
The court issued orders to conduct post mortem and properly bury the dead monitor lizards
