Police are trying to ascertain if surveillance camera footage from neighbouring houses could help in tracing the identity of the burglars.
Coimbatore: An engineer's house in Peelamedu, Coimbatore was looted of Rs.90,000 in cash and 64 sovereign of gold jewellery while the family were away visiting Annamalaiyar Temple in Tiruvannamalai since October 2.
Suresh (44), a native of Sivaram Nagar in Peelamedu worked as an engineer in Singapore and had to return to Coimbatore owing to the Covid-19 pandemic last year. After a family trip to Tiruvannamalai, Suresh returned home on Friday morning (Oct 8) to find thefront door of his house broken into. He was shocked to discover that Rs. 90,000 cash and 64 sovereigns of gold jewellery stored in the bureau, which included a chain, ring, studs, hand chain and bangles had been looted from the house.
Suresh immediately lodged a complaint at the Peelamedu police station. A police team led by Inspector Meenambikai rushed to the spot to investigate,while fingerprint experts collected the fingerprints of the burglars.The police have registered a case and are on a hunt for the burglars. They are also investigating if surveillance cameras installed in nearby houses could have caught the movement of the burglars. The burglary has created fear among the residents of the neighbourhood.
