A video of the elephants chasing the fisherman out of the Bhavani river in Sirumugai has gone viral on social media.
Coimbatore:A fisherman was chased by elephants today whilst fishing in the Bhavani River in Sirumugai area.
Since elephants have been unable to enter forests with the water level in Bhavani Dam increasing, a herd of 12 elephants were found strolling in Sirumugai area. The elephants were seen rampaging banana groves and playing in the Bhavani river, as well as strolling in the Lingapuram area for the past three days.
A video of a fisherman who was fishing today in the Bhavani river being chased by these elephants has gone viral on social media. "12 elephants have been found camping at the Viscose plant.
These elephants get out of the forests in the early morning hours and since the water level in Bhavani Dam has risen to 100 feet, elephants are unable to enter the forest area. They end up rampaging farmlands by evening,” stated forest officials in Sirumugai.
Public and fishermen passing through the area have been warned of the herd of elephants since they are likely to be found strolling till the water recedes.
