Employees in Tirupur's knitwear industry are expected to cut short their usual long festive holidays, expecting bulk orders.
Tirupur:The knitwear industry in Tirupur is looking forward to the festive season ahead, in expectation of bulk orders.
The first and second waves of the pandemic during the last two years hit production big-time in Tirupur's knitwear industry, bringing it down to half the rate of previous years. The period, post-second wave though has been positive and fear of the third wave of the pandemic surfacing has abated due to inoculation of the public.
Raja Shanmugam, President, Tirupur Exporters Association stated, "Tirupur's knitwear industry is thus expecting huge orders with the festival season underway and hence employees in the industry may not get their usual quota of 15 days holidays for Ayudha Pooja and Diwali.
The shortage of containers has necessitated quicker production of clothes. The industry has also been notified to identify workers from Bangladesh who stay and work in India, illegally. This has been warranted since in spite of checking their Aadhar cards, one is still unsure if they produce original documents," he added.
