Tirupur: The Sainik Military Training School has opened out its gates for girl students, for the first time since its inception.
The Sainik Military Training School located at the Amaravathi town near Udumalpet in Tirupur district functions under the control of the Ministry of Defence of India. The school was started in 1962 and has been admitting and training boys for military for several years.
For the very first time, the Sainik Military Training School admitted girls, last year.

The students attended classes online due to the pandemic lockdowns but now the schools are being reopened and will soon have girl students entering the portals of the school.

The girls hostel at the Sainik Military Training Schoool opened on Thursday.

The hostel is named after Velunachiyar, the fearless woman freedom fighter.

Dr. Asha Nirmal Raghu, wife of the School Principal Captain Nirmal Raghu unveiled a photograph of Velunachiyar at the girls' hostel.
