Day 12 of T23 capture mission: Attempts to capture tiger by injecting anesthetic

The Chief Wildlife Conservator of Tamil Nadu has promised to capture the T23 tiger using new tactics, since it attacks humans and livestock being unable to hunt due to old age.



The Nilgiris: Today is the 12th day of the Masinagudi T23 tiger-trapping mission. The Tamil Nadu Chief Wildlife Conservator, Sekar Kumar Neeraj has said that an attempt has been made to capture the tiger by injecting it with anesthetic by four wild veterinarians in four divisions.



Speaking to reporters at the Gudalur Devan Estate, Mayfield, Sekar Kumar Neeraj said, "Action has been taken to capture the T23 tiger, after the forest personnel involved in the task of capturing the tiger are ensuring the safety of the tiger. The tiger is said to be attacking livestock and humans due to its old age and action is being taken to capture the tiger as advised by the anti-poaching team. Further action will be taken as per the instructions of the veterinarians once the T23 tiger was captured."

The TN Chief Wildlife Conservator also stated that steps would be taken to increase the salaries of anti-poaching guards from Rs. 12,500 to Rs. 15,000 and to prevent the escalation of human-wildlife conflicts in areas like Nilgiris and Kodaikanal, in Tamil Nadu.
