Thundershowers predicted at Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Tirupati, Dharmapuri, Salem, Theni, Dindigul and Coimbatore districts on Wednesday. Moderate rain expected in other districts.
Coimbatore: The Regional Meteorological Center in Chennai has forecast thundershowers in eight districts, including Coimbatore and Nilgiris, on Wednesday and Thursday. Eight districts are likely to receive heavy rains on Wednesday which could extend for two more days.
The Meteorological Department stated that the depression over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Tamil Nadu has caused moderate rains in coastal districts, Chennai and suburban districts for the last two days. Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Tirupati, Dharmapuri, Salem, Theni, Dindigul and Coimbatore districts will now experience thundershowers at one or two places on Wednesday, with moderate rain in other districts.
Most parts of Chennai are still prone to thunderstorms and light showers on Wednesday. As of Tuesday morning, the maximum rainfall in 24 hours in the State was 8 cm in Sathyamangalam, while Chennai experienced moderate rains in many places.
