Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran has ordered the closure of all liquor stores in areas where local by-elections are being held. In a statement released, the Coimbatore District Collector stated, 'By-elections are being held for vacant local government posts in Coimbatore district. Liquor stores operating in certain areas will be closed from 10 am on October 7 to 12 pm on October 9, as well as on October 12 when counting of votes will take place.'
The order for closure is for all bars within a 5 km radius of the polling and counting centers should be closed. District Panchayat Elections are being held in 15 Panchayats under Annur Union and Presidential Elections are being held in Divansapudur and Tenkumarapalayam Panchayats. Elections for Ward members are also being held in 10 places.
