Coimbatore: The Police Department conducted an awareness drive in the Karumathampatti region of Pollachi Taluk on Tuesday, to prevent crimes against women and children. The Police department also highlighted the ‘Vidiyal’ initiative.

As per the orders of the District Superintendent, S Selvanagarathinam, the Karumathampatti-Pollachi police department conducted an awareness program for public and students of a private college within police limits. In the program conducted, the POCSO Act was explained to the students. Police officers insisted on placement of CCTV cameras to avoid any crimes and the students were taught the importance of following road safety rules and Covid guidelines.

The officials highlighted depression and addiction and stated that public could contact the ‘Vidiyal’ team anytime for help through the number 04222300999. They were also asked to contact Coimbatore District Police Control Room Number 9498181212 and WhatsApp Number 7708100100 to inform crimes against women and children. The details of the informants will be kept confidential.
