Water level in the Kutralam area of Coimbatore at the foothills of the Western Ghats continues to rise due to overcast skies and heavy rains in Kerala due to the south-east monsoon.
Coimbatore: Kovai Kutralam is a much sought after tourist destination located in the foothills of the Western Ghats in the Sadivayal region.
The forest department has announced that Kovai Kutralam will be temporarily closed from Tuesday due to high rainfall in the foothill region of the Western Ghats.
Though public access to Kovai Kutralam was halted during the Coronavirus pandemic, the tourism department had allowed access to the tourist spot on a rotational basis of 40 people per hour, by strictly implementing the safety rules imposed by the Government, to ensure there was no spread of Covid-19 infection. Locals as well as tourists were overjoyed at the relaxation of restrictions to access Kovai Kutralam.
But according to a press release issued by the forst department on Tuesday, the water level in the Kutralam area of Coimbatore at the foothills of the Western Ghats continues to rise due to overcast skies and heavy rains in Kerala due to the south-east monsoon. Hence, keeping in mind security concerns, Kovai Kutralam is to be closed for public from September 5. Tourists who were unaware of the latest announcement visited Kovai Kutralam today, only to return disappointed.
