Coimbatore: Protests are taking place in front of district collector's offices across the country today, condemning the killing of farmers in Uttar Pradesh and the arrest of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi.

As part of this, the Congress party staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore District Collector's Office. It was chaired by Congress state working President Mayura Jayakumar.

Congress state executive chairman Mayura Jayakumar said, "In the state of Uttar Pradesh, eight farmers who fought for their livelihoods were killed in a monstrous manner without humanity by the car of the minister's son, Anil Mishra. Farmers are fighting for their rights. The central government did not provide relief to such struggling farmers and today they were brutality run over by a car. Uttar Pradesh police have arrested Priyanka Gandhi who went to offer condolences to a farmer's family."
He added, "Today, the Congress party is staging demonstrations in front of the District Collector's Office across the country condemning the monstrosity that happened in Uttar Pradesh. We condemn this arrest. Let us condemn this act of inhumanity. The minister's son must be brought to justice and punished for killing eight innocent farmers. We condemn the BJP government."

He said that he will not stop the protest and said they will take up more stages of struggle and pave the way for the overthrow of this regime.
