The deceased girl’s relative who was akin to a brother, in an attempt to warn her ended up choking her when she was found talking to her boyfriend on the phone, in spite of repeated warnings by the family.
Coimbatore: A 16-year old school girl was choked to death by her relative for talking to her boyfriend on the phone.
Gayatri, daughter of Murugesan and Sangiliyammal of Palani, Dindugul district was a tenth-grade student who was reportedly in a relationship with a boy in Coimbatore. Karthik (20) her brother works as a construction worker and has been taking care of the family since their father Murugesan’s death.
Gayatri who had been recently found talking to her boyfriend over the phone was warned by her relative Balamurugan who was like a brother to her. On Sunday night, after everyone in the house were fast asleep, Gayatri was again found talking to her boyfriend from Coimbatore, Balamurugan broke her phone and in an attempt to warn her sternly, he ended up choking her to death.
An unconscious Gayatri was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by doctors. A complaint was lodged with the Pazhani town police who arrested Balamurugan. The police are also investigating the identity of the person Gayatri had been talking to, to find out if anybody else was involved in the tragic murder.
