Coimbatore: Siruvani is the main source of drinking water for the people of Coimbatore. The water level of the Siruvani Dam has risen to 42.50 feet due to heavy rains in the last few weeks in the Western Ghats.

There has been continuous rainfall in the catchment area of Siruvani Dam since the beginning of last month. Water levels have increased in waterfalls. The water supply from the waterfalls including its Muthukulam, Pattiyaru Pambaru is also increasing.

Thus the water level which was 41 feet at the beginning of last month has now risen by one meter and is continuously at 42 feet. As of this morning, the water level of Siruvani Dam has risen to 42.50 feet. The full capacity of the dam is 50 feet. The Kerala government has been keeping a 45-foot water reserve for several years for security reasons, hence the dam never reaches its full capacity.
