Speaking on the occasion of world elders day on Friday, Oct. 1st, the collector insisted that the elderly people shall make use of the helpline 14567 anytime.
Coimbatore: On the occasion of the World Elders day, which was observed on 1st Oct., Friday, the District Collector Sameeran shared the helpline, 14567 for the elderly.
The World Elders Day celebrations were held at the R.S.Puram Corporation Higher Secondary School on behalf of the Coimbatore District Social Welfare Department.
Coimbatore Collector Sameeran, who was the chief guest at the function, honored the senior citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector highlighted the perks of old age and how experience shapes everybody’s future. He conveyed his best wishes and greetings to the senior citizens who have served society and the nation. In addition, he said that a man is complete only when he attains his old age.
The Collector also said that the younger generation is encouraged by the experience, knowledge, and achievements of the elderly and is proud of the senior citizens who have created a good society through strenuous labour, heart and guidance.
“The death rate has come down considerably, thanks to scientific progress and the life expectancy of man has increased,” he said. The Collector said that the elderly constitute 8.82% of the population of Tamil Nadu in particular. The Collector also said, “it is necessary for younger generations to approach elderly for advice on the physical changes and the solution for disorders.”
The Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing various schemes for senior citizens and a free helpline number 14567 is available for the elderly to complain at any time about their problems. The helpline can be approached and complaints can be lodged any time.
Social Welfare Officer Thangamani, Revenue Division Officer Ravi Chandran, Ilango, and government officials were also present on the occasion.
