The police have warned that abductors will henceforth be charged under the Goondas' Act.
Coimbatore: A five-month-old infant was swiftly rescued by a special police squad in Anamalai after she was kidnapped by unidentified men.
The DGP and SP lauded the efforts of the special squad in nabbing the kidnappers. The police have issued a warning that kidnappers will hereafter be charged under the Goondas' Act.
Manikandan and Sangeetha, a couple hailing from Mysore lodged a complaint in Anamalai stating that their 5-month old baby girl was kidnapped near the Pollachi Anamalai Triangle bus stop on the night of September 28. The police registered a case and a special search squad was formed by the Anamalai police, on the orders of Coimbatore District SP S Selvanagarathinam. The CCTV cameras near the bus stand was reviewed for leads. Police received a tip-off on Thursday night that the kidnapped child was spotted in the Angala Kurichi area next to Anamalai. The police rushed to the spot and rescued the child.
The Anamalai police nabbed the two unidentified men who had abducted the child and after interrogation, they were identified as Murugesan and Ramar. They had sold the the child for Rs. 1 lakh to Muthupandi who was also arrested for buying the child.
District SP S Selvanagarathinam and the DIGlauded the quick thinking and follow-up action of the special squads and felicitated them with certificates and medals at the SP office, in Coimbatore, on Friday.
“Three teams were formed after receiving the complaint of a child’s abduction. The special teams rescued the child within 48 hours,” stated a proud DIG Muthusamy. He also warned that kidnappers will be charged under the Goondas' Act, hereafter.
