Anamalai police have arrested a man Muthupandi who bought the child for Rs.1 lakh, and two other men Murugesan and Ramar who abducted the child.
Coimbatore: Mysore natives Manikandan and Sangeetha's five-month old baby girl who was abducted by an unidentified person near Anamalai Mukkonam Bus Stand near Pollachi, September 28.
Anamalai police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by the child's parents. On the orders of Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, S Selvanagarathinam, the Anamalai police set up a team to search for the unidentified person who abducted the child with the help of the CCTV footage. Police received a tip-off last night that the abducted child was in Angalkurichi.
A special police team rushed to Angalkurichi and rescued the abducted child. The child abduction was linked to J J Ramar (45) from Nagar area and Murugesh (29) from Sethumadai area who were arrested and interrogated. It was discovered during interrogation that Muthupandi (51), a labourer from Angalakurichi near Anaimalai was childless for 20 years. The two men told him that they would buy a child for Muthupandi. Manikandan and Sangeetha's five-month old was targeted for abduction and sold for Rs. 1 lakh, according to preliminary investigations.
Following this, the Anamalai police have arrested Muthupandi who bought the child and Murugesan and Ramar who abducted the child. A special team of police are conducting a serious investigation into whether the two men arrested in the child abduction case were involved in other abduction cases.
