The college student's parents had lodged a complaint against Nagarajan at the All Women's Police Station, Coimbatore East for rape and sexual assualt.
Coimbatore: A hosiery unit worker has been arrested for kidnapping and raping a Coimbatore college student.
A 17-year old student doing her first year at a private college in Coimbatore got acquainted through Facebook with Nagaraj (27) who works for the Tirupur Banyan Company. Both seem to have met and interacted requently, which reportedly blossomed into a love relationship. A few days ago, Nagaraj proposed marriage to the girl and since he felt that her mother would not consent to their marriage, he convinced the girl to leave her home and go with him.
The student agreed to the proposal and on the day of the incident, Nagaraj is said to have arrived in Coimbatore and taken her to Tirupur where he reportedly tied a 'thaali' around her neck at his house and both lived together like a couple. In a few days, Nagaraj reportedly began to sexually harass the girl. The frightened girl escaped from Nagaraj's clutches and returned home where she weepingly related the horror story to her parents. The shocked parents lodged a complaint at the All Women's Police Station, Coimbatore East and after investigating the complaint, the police filed a case under the POCSO Act against Nagarajan and arrested him.
Nagarajan had been in hiding in the Dharapuram area of Tirupur district. He was brought to Coimbatore and later produced at Court by Police Inspector, Doulat Nisha and remanded in custody.
