Minerals Department officials on receiving information that stones were being carried away in violation of quarry rules, investigated and fined 7 quarries.
Coimbatore: There are numerous quarries in Coimbatore district, in areas like Sulur, Madukkarai and Annur.
Minerals Department officials were informed that stones were being taken from these quarries in violation of the rules for these quarries. Hence, the authorities immediately investigated and initiated action against the violators.
Minerals Department officials said, "A total of 122 quarries have been sanctioned in Coimbatore district. Permission to operate the quarry must be obtained not only from the Department of Minerals, but also from various departments including the Department of Revenue, the Department of Geography and the Department of Agriculture. In Coimbatore district, 3 quarries have been fined for violating the rules, while 7 quarries across the district have been fined for each quarry, including Pachapalayam and Kallampalayam."
"We reported the irregularities to the Revenue Department. They are also taking action against the stone quarries in this regard. Complaints of illegal quarries will be acted upon immediately," added the officials.
