Valparai Plantation Workers Trade Unions Consultation held to discuss new salary structure

The consultations were held regarding the new salaries for tea plantation workers announced by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the next steps to be taken.


Coimbatore: The Valparai Plantation Trade Union Joint Committee in Valparai, Coimbatore District held consultations on the new salaries for tea plantation workers announced by the Government of Tamil Nadu and the next steps to be taken.

The Tamil Nadu Government has announced a minimum wage of Rs. 425.40 paise for tea plantation workers. The tea plantation workers' wage agreement ended last June. Following this, an interim agreement has been entered into, for Rs. 395, from July 1, 2021.



Valparai Tea Estate Trade Union Joint Committee Chairman, Valparai V Hameed and LPF Union leader Soundarapandian took the lead. Workers were told that they had no intention of concluding any contract with the plantation owners until the Government issued an order at the end of the consultation meeting and hence there were no plans to enter into an interim agreement.

At the consultative meeting, many workers including Union executives LPF Vinodkumar Senthil, INTUC Karuppaiya, AITUC Mohan Ramakrishnan, LLF Kesava Marugan, Veeramani, HMS Manikkam, CITU Paramasivam, MLF Kalyani, Thangavel, Manikkam, Varghese and Dharmaraj were present.
