Airport expansion and highway, flyover works will be expedited and that petitions would be received for the construction of landing sites at key points on the flyovers being constructed in Coimbatore district and steps would be taken based on the petition.
Coimbatore: The Industrial Consultative Meeting was held in Coimbatore todayon behalf of the Association of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Coimbatore and the Kongu Global Organization with the participation of Members of Parliament from the Western Districts of Tamil Nadu.
The meeting was attended by Nilgiris MP A.Raja, Namakkal MP AKB Chinraj, Erode MP Ganesamurthy, Karur MP Jothimani, Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan, Pollachi MP Shanmugasundaram and Tirupur MP Subramanian.
Minister of Public Works and Highways AV Velu and Minister of Forests Ramachandran were the special guests at the event.
Coimbatore District Collector Dr. GS Sameeran, Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara and government officials were present on the occasion.
During the consultation meeting, representatives from various industry organizations briefed the Members of Parliament on the challenges faced by the industry in the West Zone and measures for industrial development.
In particular, demands such as road widening, highway construction and Coimbatore airport expansion were put forward.
Minister of Public Works and Highways A. V. Velu addressed the gathering.
He said, "Roads play an important role in the development of the individual economy, rural and urban. Rail transport, air services and road infrastructure play an important role in the export of goods produced in the Coimbatore district. In addition, the government has announced the acquisition of land worth Rs 1132 crore for the expansion of the Coimbatore airport. The Coimbatore District Collector would soon begin work on the airport expansion.
The Government of Tamil Nadu is functioning as a government to promote industrial development. Economic growth and employment will increase if industrial growth is achieved. The Government of Tamil Nadu will always support the development of the western part of Tamil Nadu. Work is underway to widen the road from Palladam to Kochi. The Palladam-Chittoor two-lane road has been converted into a four-lane road. Survey work on the highway from Coimbatore to Karur is nearing completion. Work would be completed before 2024 at an estimated cost of Rs 3,140 crore."
