2 candidates' nomination rejected in local by-elections in Coimbatore

Nominations for the 16 vacant posts of Coimbatore District Panchayat Councilor were held from the 15th to the 22nd of this month. A total of 94 petitions were filed, including 21 for the post of Panchayat Councillor. Of these, only 2 nominations have been rejected.


Coimbatore: 2 petitions filed to contest in Coimbatore district local body by-election have been rejected. Nominations for the 16 vacant posts of Coimbatore District Panchayat Councilor were held from the 15th to the 22nd of this month.

A total of 94 petitions were filed, including 21 for the post of Panchayat Councillor. The review of these nominations took place yesterday. Of these, only 2 nominations have been rejected. The petitions of the remaining 92 were accepted.

A District Electoral Officer said, "The application of the Naam Tamil Party's alternative candidate for the post of Coimbatore District Panchayat Councilor was rejected. The petition of a person who contested for the post of Village Panchayat Ward Member has been rejected. A total of 92 petitions were accepted, including 63 for ward panchayat ward members, 9 for village panchayat head and 20 for district panchayat councilor. With this, the withdrawal of nominations is till tomorrow(Saturday) at 3 pm. Candidates will then be assigned symbols."
