Farmers urge for a meeting to prevent human-wildlife conflict in Coimbatore

The farmers demanded at the appeal meeting that a meeting be held under the chairmanship of the Minister to prevent human-wildlife conflict

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Farmers Appeal Meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Collector Sameeran through the internet.

Special arrangements were made at the Agricultural Extension Centers in the district for the farmers to attend the meeting. Tamil Nadu Farmers Association District President S. Palanisamy said at the meeting: In Coimbatore district, farmers and the public continue to be affected by wildlife including elephants in places like Thondamuthur, Madukkarai, Pannimadai, Mettupalayam, Pollachi, Sirumugai and Karamadai. They said these animals cause crop damage and loss of life hence immediate relief should be provided for these losses.

They said, "A meeting of farmers, representatives of agricultural associations and forest officials should be held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Forests to prevent human-wildlife conflict and provide compensation. A new project on water management should be started in Tamil Nadu.

This project should pave the way to prevent flooding of river beds during the monsoon season. The Seed Certification Department operating in Coimbatore should not be shifted to Chennai. On behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu, we welcome the resolution in the Assembly against the three new agricultural laws of the Union Government and the withdrawal of cases against farmers."
