Forest workers protest against the arrest of Valparai forest ranger in Pollachi. They warned that forest workers will go on indefinite strike if the forest officer is not released.
Coimbatore: Police have registered a case against Valparai forest ranger Jayachandran for misrepresenting some tourists staying in the Valparai Sirukundra forest area next to Pollachi and lodged him in the Pollachi branch jail.
Condemning this, more than 500 forest workers working in the Valparai, Ulandi, Pollachi, Manampalli, Amravati and Udumalai wildlife sanctuaries in the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve today held a protest rally at the Pollachi Forest Office under the chairmanship of Sivaprakasam, the state president of the Tamil Nadu Forest Officers Association.
Speaking at the meeting the head of state said that the false case against Forest Officer should be withdrawn and he should be released immediately and re-employed in the same place. The Valparai Criminal Court employee who made a false complaint againstForest Officer should be sacked and action should be taken against him.
He also said that no one should be allowed to stay in luxury hotels under the control of the forest department and that the forest staff should not hire anyone for accommodation work and should hire people separately for those jobs. A resolution was passed at a protest meeting at the Pollachi Wildlife Office demanding that all forest workers go on indefinite strike until the arrested Valparai wildlife is released.
