CPI, MDMK and TPDK protest to give Kadar tribes their lands in Valparai

Communist Party of India, MDMK and Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam besieged the Pollachi Forest Department office in the Valparai Wildlife Sanctuary, next to Pollachi urging to give Kadar tribes their lands back

Coimbatore: More than 25 tribals have traditionally inhabited the Kallar Gudi Kadar hill station near Valparai in the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve next to Pollachi.

3 years ago the floods damaged their homes and they are currently living in a makeshift hut in the Valparai tea estate without enough basic facilities. So they demanded that they be resettled in the traditional place. So far that request has not been met

Today, members of various organizations including Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, the Communist Party, MDMK and the Congress staged a protest in front of the Pollachi Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Forest Department office demanding the immediate fulfillment of the demands of the tribal people.

Then slogans were raised against the Tamil Nadu government demanding that the hill people be given a lease and resettled. Traditionally hill people have been losing their homes and living in the same place for more than three years. Thus they are subjected to various difficulties without any basic facilities. Protesters have warned that the protests will intensify if the Tamil Nadu government does not immediately issue a lease and resettle in Kallar tribes.
