Jayachandran was under the influence of alcohol while he was on patrol duty. On 21st September, Jayachandran who visited the lodge in SiruKundra Estate in Valparai region, caught in an argument and abused the tourists staying there.
Valparai: Forest officer Jayachandran was arrested after tourists in Valparai alleged him of using abusive words and threatening to kill the tourists.
Jayachandran was under the influence of alcohol while he was on patrol duty. On 21st September, Jayachandran who visited the lodge in SiruKundra Estate in Valparai region, caught in an argument and abused the tourists staying there. He produced death threats on them which escalated the issue and led to filing a case on him.
FIR filed under 3 sections in IPC 294 B, 506 (1) of IPC and 4 (1) (j) of Tamil Nadu Prohibition ACT, 4(1)(j)(i) - Consumes or buys any liquor other than such liquor as may be specified by the State Government by notification in their behalf and Jayachandran was arrested.
However, forest officials boycotted the office condemning the arrest of Jayachandran. Over 100 people gathered at the checkpoint at Attakati. Police have been deployed in the area for security
One of the forest officers stated that 'Tourists were seen roaming outside the lodges which were unsafe given the situation in the region now. Wild animals are being continuously spotted especially during the night. The cops however did not investigate the tourists and have been behaving one-sided on the matter'
