Several crores of trade affected as Pollachi cattle market has restricted other state traders. Traders have lamented that thousands of workers have suffered various job losses and demanded that the Tamil Nadu government protect by imposing further relaxations on the market.
Coimbatore: Pollachi is home to the largest cattle market in South India. Traders from the neighboring states of Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and various districts of Tamil Nadu used to bring cattle for sale to this market. The Coimbatore district administration had banned the market for the past three weeks due to coronavirus and Zika virus infections. Currently the district administration has given permission to run the cattle market with local traders with additional relaxations.
Following this, the cattle market functioned today but traders complained that the trade has been affected to about three crore rupees yesterday as traders from other states and districts are not allowed to come due to the virus. Already the multi-crore rupee trade was impacted due to the Coronavirus.
