Coimbatore: As part of the ongoing nutrition awareness month, special program was held in front of the Adiyogi statue atIsha Yoga Centre, here.
At the event held on behalf of the Integrated Child Development Program (ICDS), briefings on good eating habits and hygiene was stressed through tribal dance and silambattam. Especially, the need for pregnant women, nursing mothers andadolescent girls to take iron-rich foods were recommended.
In particular, the participants were advised to include millets and iron-rich foods like moringa, spinach, dates, palm fruit in their regular diet to prevent anaemia and to curate their diet in such a way that all essentialnutrients are provided to the body in a balanced and regular manner.
In addition, hygiene practices such as hand washing, which are to be followed for the development of the infants health up to 1,000 days from birth, were also discussed.
The event was held under the guidance ofJothi, Child Development Project Officer, Thondamuthur. Local Anganwadi staff, regional coordinators and supervisors co-ordinated the event.
