Victim catches thieves with help of neighbours and hands them over at Palladam police station
Tirupur: Two men were arrested today in Palladam for attempting to steal a gold chain from a residence, while posing as sales representatives.
Dhanapal is a native of Valasupalayam, Palladam region in Tirupur and lives with his wife Shivaranjani and their child. Two men dressed as sales representatives visited his house and urged him to bring any gold ornament that needs to be polished. They assured him that the powder they were selling would clean the gold ornament thoroughly. Though Dhanapal initially refused, later he brought his 2 sovereign gold chain and gave it to them. After they pretended to wash the chain with some powder, the two men reportedly asked for a pressure cooker to finish the cleaning process. When Dhanapal went inside to fetch the cooker, the two men tried to escape with the chain.
However, Dhanapal along with the help of his neighbors caught hold of them and produced them at the Palladam police station. Investigations reveal that the two men, Kandlal (33) and Manish Kumar (33) hailed from Bihar. The inquiry also revealed that they were involved in similar scams in various districts, including Erode and Tirupur, in the same guise of sales representatives. There were several other cases that had been filed on the two miscreants and police were on the lookout for them. The police confiscated the stolen chain and their two-wheeler.
