A center called 'Vidiyal' has been set up in Coimbatore district to provide counseling to people with suicidal tendencies.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Police are taking steps to reduce suicides, unnatural deaths and accidents in their areas of jurisdiction.
As part of this, a center called 'Vidiyal' has been set up in the district to provide counselling to people with suicidal tendencies. This year, 570 cases of death have been reported in city police stations.
Every day, it is reported that an average of six people commit suicide. With the newly-started counseling center, police hope to bring down the rate of suicides. In Coimbatore, accident cases have been on the increase. Accidental deaths reported were in single digits during the Coronavirus lockdown, when there was less traffic. But now with the increase in traffic, the number of accident fatalities have also increased. 63 people have been killed in accidents thus far. Following this, the police have stepped in to strictly enforce traffic rules. In addition, Coimbatore city police stations have registered 7 murders, 31 attempted murders, 51 burglaries, 96 robberies and 294 theft cases.
