Despite the coronavirus spread being constantly around 200 mark in Coimbatore district, these blunt lockdowns and uncertainty around when businesses can be open is surely hurting the business community. Locking out one day out of a week when the rest of the week is crowded doesn't make any logical sense to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Coimbatore: The district administration has implemented restrictionsin addition to the restrictions previously imposed by the Tamil Nadu state government despite the coronavirus spread being constantly around 200 mark in Coimbatore district.
The district administration has ordered a ban on the operation of all shops except essential shops, pharmacies, vegetable shops, grocery stores and in the Coimbatore district on Sunday.
The order of the district administration came into force on Sunday. All restaurants, bakeries in the district are only allowed for parcel service on Sundays from 8am to 10pm. All multi-storey shopping malls, theaters, parks and tourist sites in the district are banned from operating on Sundays only. Only 50 per cent of wholesale outlets in the markets are allowed on a rotational basis.
About 50 per cent of the shops are allowed to operate immediately on a rotating basis. The Pollachi Cattle Market has been given permission to operate with local customers as the existing restrictions on all weekly markets in the district continue.
Due to such restrictions, multi-storey shopping malls, clothing stores and jewellery shops have been closed in places including Gandhipuram Crosscut Road and 100 ft Road and Oppanakkara street.
Similarly the wholesale and retail fish market which was always bustling was closed thus the customers who came to buy fish returned. It is to be noted that a few in the Lorrypet area where the wholesale fish market is located engaged in selling fish on the road in violation of the order of the district administration. The roads on the main roads of Coimbatore were deserted as all shops other than the essentials outlets were closed.
