The NSUI slammed the Union Government for reportedly ruining lives of 21 medical aspirants due to NEET and demanded for the cruelty to stop.
Coimbatore: The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) protested against the implementation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in Tamil Nadu. The protest was held near the Coimbatore Railway Station on Friday.
'The Union Government is snatching away the dream and confidence of students to pursue a career in medicine through the forceful implementation of NEET in Tamil Nadu. The Union Government is simply depriving the rights of the state and turning a blind eye to the assembly guidelines, parliament committees or the court of law. The Union Government is imposing NEET in TN that results in suicides of students, for the past five years,' opined members of the NSUI.
Condemning the Centre's stubborn stand on NEET, the Students’ Union lauded the Tamil Nadu Government’s decision to ban NEET. They urged the Tamil Nadu Governor, R N Ravi to sign the petition against NEET as soon as possible, unlike the previous Governor who ignored the petition. 'If the Governor failed to sign the petition, then we would have to lay siege to the Governor’s office,' warned Mariyappan, State Secretary of the Students' Union of India.
They also insisted that compensation be provided for families who lost their children as victims to NEET and warned Annamalai and H Raja from setting foot in educational institutions, for speaking ill of the dead.
