The protesters demanded basic amenities like proper roads, sewage, water supply
Coimbatore: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged an awareness protest in Ukkadam demanding basic amenities for the residents of Ukkadam area.
The Smart City project estimate for Coimbatore is several 1000 crores. However, the protesters stated that the city administration has not turned their attention to certain areas. Marakkadai, Kottaimedu, GM Nagar, Jubliee Nagar and Karumbukkadai areas are the densely populated areas in Coimbatore. These areas need proper drainage facility, water supply and roads, which have been denied to residents in these areas for unknown reasons.

More than 100 people raised slogans protesting along with the Coimbatore District SDPI party in Ukkadam against the district administration, demanding basic amenities such as roads, drainage system and water supply. They demanded immediate action since environmental hygiene was at stake and stray dog menace had also increased.
