Police arrest two Hindu activists for slandering Thanthai Periyar in a wall post in Coimbatore

General Secretary of the Coimbatore district's Bharat Sena youth wing, Muthukrishnan and a member of the Bharat Sena Peelamedu area, Tamilarasan arrested for pasting wall posters slandering Thanthai Periyar.


Coimbatore: The 143rd birth anniversary of Thanthai Periyar is being celebrated all over Tamil Nadu, on September 17. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin announced that Thanthai Periyar's birthday would be celebrated as Social Justice Day.

Officials in the Coimbatore District Collectorate, the City Police Office and the Corporation office took the pledge of social justice on Friday. At around midnight on Thursday, a man belonging to the Bharat Sena organization was pasting a wall poster on 100-feet road in the Tatabad area, slandering Thanthai Periyar saying that he had married his adopted daughter.

The Coimbatore Gandhipuram Kattoor Police Sub-Inspector Arjun and Inspector Shanthi arrested the man, who has been identified as Ravikumar. He confessed that the General Secretary of Coimbatore district's Bharat Sena youth wing, Muthukrishnan (31), and a member of the Bharat Sena Peelamedu area, Tamilarasan (30) had given him the wall poster to be pasted on 100-feet road.

Following this, the Gandhipuram Kattoor police are interrogating Muthukrishnan and Tamilarasan and are continuing their investigation. Sources in police circles say that they will be arrested and jailed in a while. This has caused tension in the city.
