The election code of conduct will be in force throughout the Annur Panchayat Union as the District Panchayat Council elections are to be held. 131 polling stations are to be set up for conducting local body by-elections for 16 seats in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Elections for local bodies, including 9 districts in Tamil Nadu, were announced yesterday. The election rules of conduct came into force in the panchayats where elections are held. In Coimbatore district, by-elections for 16 seats, including the district panchayat councilor, will be held on the 9th of next month. A total of 131 polling stations are being set up in the district for this purpose.
A district election official said, "The election code of conduct will be in force throughout the Annur Panchayat Union as the District Panchayat Council elections are to be held. Pollachi South Panchayat Union Thenkumarapalayam and Anaimalai Divansaputhur panchayats are holding elections for the post of Grama Panchayat President. So the rules of electoral conduct have been enforced throughout these panchayats. As the election for ward members will be held in 13 village panchayats of Belladi, Thekkampatti, Velliyankadu, Muthur, Seerappalayam, Gurudampalayam, Boligavundampalayam, Zameenmuthur, Kallipalayam, Bogampatti, J.Krishnapuram, Jallipatti and Madampatti, the rules of conduct will be in force throughout the respective panchayats. Therefore, if you carry more than Rs. 50,000 in cash in places where there are rules of conduct for elections, you should keep the relevant documents. If the documents are not available the money will be confiscated and handed over to the district treasury. Flying squads have been set up to monitor the rules of electoral conduct. The flying squad will carry out 24-hour vehicle inspections on a rotational basis to prevent the distribution of cash and gift items to voters."
