Coimbatore:Residents of Valparai are constantly under attack from wildlife that stray from the forest reserve into residential neighbourhoods.
In yet another unfortunate incident, a herd of eight elephants damaged houses, plantations and almost killed a couple residing in one of the houses, in Valparai.
Wild elephants that are en route to other areas in the forest tend to stray into Valparai residential areas on the way, and cause mayhem by rampaging through stores, tea plantations, ration shops and houses.

Eight elephants completely destroyed Muthu Mudi 2nd hairpin bend area in Valaprai, and then stormed into a house and broke the tv and other belongings, pushed down compound walls and damaged jackfruit trees in the house. The couple residing in the house, Selvaraj and his wife had a miraculous escape at the nick of the moment and found shelter in a neighbor’s house.

The Manambally Forest Range Officers rushed to the rampaged area and chased away the elephants. The havoc caused by the elephants on human property has again triggered panic amidst Valparai residents.
