7 sluices opened as Pollachi Aliyar Dam overflows: Flood warning issued

Pollachi Aliyar dam reaches its highest capacity and 7 sluices have been opened to release water. Flood warning issued in places close to the river.


Coimbatore: Pollachi Aliyar area in Coimbatore district has been flooded since yesterday due to continuous rains and seven sluices have been opened.

Therefore, the district administration has advised the people living in the coastal areas to move to safer places.

1,050 cubic feet of flood water has been released from Pollachi Aliyar Dam through 7 sluices. Due to heavy rains in the Western Ghats, the water level of the dam has increased to full capacity. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in at least two places.
