Coimbatore: Kovai Coutralam or Siruvani waterfall will be closed for visitors, the forest department announced on Monday.

The tourist stop that attracts huge number of visitors is closed to public, till future notice is issued. Incessant rainfall in the Western Ghats of Kerala has resulted in the flooding of the waterfall, making it unsafe for visitors, prompting the forest department announce its closure, till further notice.

When Coimbatore witnessed a spike in corona virus cases, the waterfall was closed for three months. It was opened to public on public on September 6. As a precautionary measure visitors were allotted time slots to spend time at Kovai Coutralam.

Following heavy rainfall in the neighbouring regions, the tourist spot remained temporarily closed to public for four days, from September 9 till yesterday. However, due to an increase in water level at the falls and considering the safety of tourists, the forest department on Monday, announced that Kovai Coutralam is to remain closed to visitors till further notice.
