Martyrs Day is observed annually on September 11 to commemorate the forest officers who sacrificed their lives in the cause of conservation of the forest and wildlife.
Coimbatore: Following the Martyrs 'Day on September 11, a memorial service was held at the Forest Martyrs' Memorial at the Coimbatore Tamil Nadu Forest Training Center. Martyrs Day is observed annually on September 11 to commemorate the forest officers who sacrificed their lives in the cause of conservation of the forest and wildlife. Accordingly, Martyrs' Day was observed at the Forest College premises at Mettupalayam Road, Coimbatore on the occasion of the fourth anniversary.

The memorial erected in 2017 was decorated with flowers and was honoured by forest officials and the families of those killed during the operation. On behalf of the Forest Department, Manjunatha, Director and Additional Chief Forest Officer of the Tamil Nadu Wildlife Training Center and Additional Chief Forest Officer and Forest Minister Thirunavukarasu, Additional Chief Forest Officer Anwardeen and Coimbatore District Forest Officer Ashok Kumar paid their respects with a wreath. The family of Satheeskumar, a forest ranger who recently passed away, also took part in it. Officials said it was set up to encourage colleagues to remember the sacrifices made in the work of protecting the forest and wildlife. Earlier on behalf of the police 27 gunfires were fired to pay homage.
