Gold smuggling at Coimbatore airport; Two arrested
Coimbatore: Two arrested for gold smuggling back at Coimbatore airport. Customs officials have arrested two persons and confiscated the gold worth Rs 26 lakh which was melted and smuggled in a paste form on an Air Arabia flight.
The official statement said, "An Air Arabia flight from Arabia arrived at Coimbatore Airport at 3:30 am today. After all, while the passengers were being let out after a thorough check, officers caught two suspects and searched their bag. It was then revealed that the gold had been melted down in the form of a paste and was being smuggled. One was found to weigh 296 kilograms (please check) and the other 320 kilograms. Upon investigation it was revealed that they were Mohammad Yasir (age 30), Irfan (age 35). The customs officials handed over the gold pastes worth Rs 26 lakh to a gold jewelery expert and are investigating further.
Authorities have arrested the two smugglers and are conducting a series of investigations. The incident has caused a stir in Coimbatore.
