Coimbatore: Drinking water is provided to the public of Ganapathy, once a week under the Athikkadavu Avinashi Drinking Water Project in Coimbatore.
Government employees, teachers, students, students and women have suffered due to the opening of the drinking water at night. Areas of Maniyakarampalayam, Ganapathy area, Sanganur Road, CMS school area have more than a thousand families live in it.
These people have a corporation owned drinking water tank opposite the Coimbatore Ramakrishna Mill under the Athikkadavu Avinashi Drinking Water Project. There the drinking water is fully loaded and stored.
Later the water is being distributed every Wednesday morning. But for the past one month drinking water has been opened for the public mostly after midnight. Therefore, those who can go to work in the morning are forced to stay awake at night to get drinking water.
Such an act has caused great distress among the general public. Earlier the minister had announced that drinking water would be provided twice a week. But that is not happening.
Drinking water is provided only once a week and that too at night. The people of the area have demanded that the corporation administration take immediate action to provide drinking water at mornings. Resident’s associations in the area have warned the Corporation officials that they will mobilize the public and block the road if immediate actions are not undertaken. This has created a stir in that area.
