'DMK has a duty to lead secular parties' - Sitharam Yechury in Coimbatore

All India General Secretary of the Marxist Communist Party Sitaram Yechury addressed a public meeting at Sivananda Colony, Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: All India General Secretary of the Marxist Communist Party Sitaram Yechury addressed a public meeting at Sivananda Colony, Coimbatore. Comrade Zakir translated Sitharam Yechury's speech into Tamil.

During his address, Sitaram Yechury said that he was happy to start the election campaign from Coimbatore and said that he began his last election campaign for parliamentary elections from Coimbatore.

He then blamed the BJP central government by stating “Indian economy had begun to slide even before the Covid-19 pandemic, BJP implemented various anti-people programs that led to the economic downturn without even considering the public interest regarding the plans.

Sitaram Yechury stated that the present Tamil Nadu government is acting as a puppet for BJP at the center and demanded the people of Tamil Nadu teach the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam a proper lesson during the upcoming assembly election.

He then said that over 150 million people across the country had lost their jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic and said that it was our duty to prevent the Modi government who focus only on benefiting the corporates and its puppet AIADMK party from regaining power.

He then stated that “since BJP was elected, majority of public industries have been privatized, adding to the efforts being made to privatize the Neyveli thermal power plant in Tamil Nadu, which plays a key role in power generation.

When farmers from Tamil Nadu came to Delhi and protested that they did not get proper food, I took it to parliament to say that the farmers were in a situation to eat rats to protect their livelihoods, but the Modi government did not cancel those loans taken by the farmers instead they cancelled the loans given to the big bosses who had borrowed lakhs of crores.”

CPIM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury further complained that “ In the BJP-ruled state of Uttar Pradesh, there is not even a single drop of security given to women. Newspaper reports say that Dalit women are often sexually harassed and no action has been taken when a father was killed who’s daughter was recently raped. BJP is making India an uninhabitable country to live in.”

BJP and RSS:

Further speaking at the campaign CPIM General Secretary said that “The policy of the BJP is one country, one language, one religion which is also the policy of the RSS. The aim of the central government is to destroy the pluralism of India and to bring the Indian Union under a single common identity.” He then requested the people to oppose the fascist goals of the central government.

“Democracy is being undermined by the central government in parliament since they have the majority. We are in a situation where we have to defend parliamentary rights.

Tamil Nadu has a history of fighting for state rights even during times of emergency. It is an important assembly election for the people of Tamilnadu as it will help them regain the state rights again.

Secular parties should unite under the leadership of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to oppose the religious forces. I believe DMK has the responsibility to lead the secular parties.” He said.

CPIM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury then said that he had the opportunity to work under the leadership of Kalaignar Karunanidhi and said that the consensus of the parties working together would help save Tamil Nadu and India and now it has become a reality.

He then said that and said that the people of Tamil Nadu should form an alternative government in the coming assembly elections and that Tamil Nadu should be a role model for India.

On behalf of the State-District Committee, the party handed over Rs. 43 lakhs collected for the election on behalf of the Marxist Communist Party to Sitharam Yechury on stage.

G. Ramakrishnan:

Following him, G. Ramakrishnan, a member of the Marxist Communist Party's political leadership committee, accused the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (ADMK) regime of being a puppet of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who are engaged in anti-people activities. He then said that AIADMK is trying to build the image that Tamil Nadu had developed during their regime through fake advertisements and said that none of the people's problems had been solved.

He then said that Tamilnadu is getting very tense for women to live in and said that the government did not take any action regarding the female IPS officer harassment incident . He said the people of Tamil Nadu should teach a lesson in the forthcoming assembly elections for the Edappadi Palanisamy-led government, which supports the central government's agricultural laws and acts in support of the sectarian trend.

P.R. Natarajan:

Speaking on the occasion, PR Natarajan, Member of Parliament for the Marxist Communist Party (MCP), accused the Tamil Nadu government led by Edappadi Palanisamy of betraying the people of Tamil Nadu by supporting the central government's plans that would affect the livelihoods of the people by claiming to provide good governance in the way of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

He then said that AIADMK claims TN to be developed by using promotional advertisements.
