The Nilgiris: Election Commission Officials in Nilgiris seized 4500 chicks from AIADMK members who were said to be distributing 25 chicks for every house in Coonoor, The Nilgiris ahead of the state assembly elections.
Election Commission code of conduct has been established in The Nilgiris district. But AIADMK members gave away 500 rupees cash along with Dhoti and Saree to cover voters.

Meanwhile, locals from Kottamalai, Karansi and Solada villages informed the election commission officials about AIADMK members distributing 25 free chicks per house in these villages as a free gift ahead election.
Post the information, Election Official Bhuvaneshwaran, Police Special Sub Inspector Senthil Kumar and other flying squad members seized 4500 chicks from AIADMK members.Later the officials took the chicks to a poultry farm in Namakkal.

Despite the AIADMK members saying the distribution was done under a public welfare scheme, officials say that the distribution is wrong and completely against the election rules since it was not overseen by the district revenue officer.
