Gelatin sticks seized at Walayar: Intensive inspection at Walayar check-post overnight
Coimbatore: Intensive inspection at Walayar check-post overnight as Gelatin sticks seized at Walayar. Police are conducting intensive raids at Coimbatore check posts following the seizure of gelatin sticks and detonators at Walayar on the Kerala state border which has caused a stir.
Surveillance at checkpoints has been intensified following the arrest of those who smuggled gelatin sticks and detonators. Kerala state police have received information that ganja is being smuggled from Tamil Nadu to Kerala. Following this, the Palakkad police were engaged in an intensive search in the Walayar area yesterday. When the lorry carrying the vegetable from Salem was checked, gelatin sticks and detonators were hidden in it. Then the lorry was taken to the Palakkad police station.
Of the boxes in the truck, 50,000 gelatin sticks and 4,500 electric detonators were seized. Kerala police said their value was one and a half crore rupees. Following this, the Kerala Police arrested the lorry driver Prince, 32, and the cleaner Karthik, 26, from Salem Attur. With the announcement of the election, the smuggling of explosives has caused a stir. Following this, the police have intensified surveillance at check posts along the Tamil Nadu border.
Coimbatore Rural SP Arularasu said, “In response to this incident, intensive inspections were carried out on all the vegetable lorries that went to Kerala the night before yesterday. Though it takes half an hour to unload and load the goods in the vegetable trucks inspection is still underway. Up to 300 lorries go to Kerala daily and trucks bound for Kerala are being inspected."
