Coimbatore: Police seize 7.2 tonnes of ration rice stored in a private godown near Podanur in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore Podanur Chettipalayam - District Revenue Officer Ramathurai Murugan received a tip-off that ration rice was being stored in a private godown on Eachanari Road.
Following the order of the Revenue Officer, officers led by Madukkarai Circle Distribution Officer Ramesh Kumar, Flying Squad Revenue Officer Kumar, Civil Goods Revenue Inspector Sasikumar and Food Smuggling Prevention Division Assistant Inspector Vadivelan visited the area and inquired.
As it was not known who the owner of the godown was, when they broke the lock of the godown and went inside, it was revealed that there were bundles of ration rice in 5 rooms of the godown which was originally used as an onion godown. Food safety officials later confiscated about 7.2 tonnes of ration rice stored there. The Food Smuggling Prevention Unit police are also conducting a serious investigation as to who the owner of the godown was and who was responsible for hoarding ration rice.
